This page is intended to provide you with valuable information about Golden Oak Labrador Retrievers and our breeding program. If you have a question or concern that is not listed here, please do not hesitate to contact us!

  • A fundamental goal of our program is to produce a moderate, balanced Labrador that resembles the original breed standard as closely as possible. To achieve this, our puppies’ pedigrees contain a variety of lines over multiple countries of origin. Our breeding dams are predominantly field bred or “working type” Labs of American descent, and we frequently introduce bench/show lines of both American and European ancestry through our carefully chosen stud dogs. Occasionally we will have full field line pairings, resulting in puppies that are most ideal for competitive testing and trialing homes.

  • Our program is currently focusing on yellows and blacks. As of 2025 we have no plans to bring in chocolates, but we are not opposed to it further down the road. We do not and will never produce off-standard colors such as “silver,” “charcoal,” or “champagne”.

  • Absolutely. Health testing is of the utmost importance to us and we hold a very high standard of health to all of our dogs. Hips, elbows, eyes, and a breed specific DNA panel at minimum are completed prior to any breeding consideration. If you are interested in viewing our dogs’ health testing results, you may easily type in their registered name or AKC registration number (listed on each dog’s page) in the search bar at https://ofa.org. We are also happy to share our dogs’ hip and elbow radiograph images upon request.

  • We send our puppies home with a 3-year health guarantee covering genetic defects of hips, elbows, heart and eyes as long as the puppy is kept intact (not spayed or neutered) before 24 months of age as noted in our contract. The following genetic conditions are covered for the lifetime of the dog:

    Exercise Induced Collapse (EIC)

    Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA)

    Centronuclear Myopathy (CNM)

    Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)

    Skeletal Dysplasia 2 (SD2)

    Hereditary Nasal Parakeratosis (HNPK)

    Osteochondrodysplasia (OSD)

    Copper Toxicosis

    Stargardt Disease

If you’d like to learn more about our health guarantee, you can view our puppy contract here.

  • At this time, we register our puppies with AKC Limited registration, meaning they can perform and compete in any sport besides AKC conformation, but cannot produce AKC registered litters. Breeding a dog outside of this agreement is a breach of contract, and trust, that we take extremely seriously.

However, we do offer the opportunity to change a dog’s registration to Full after all required health testing is completed after 2 years of age, and if it has proven itself to be a valuable asset to the Labrador breed, at our discretion.

  • Because we are a smaller scale operation and typically produce 0-2 litters per year, we often have limited availability on our waitlist. You may apply for waitlist approval through our puppy application here. We will review your application and respond within 48 hours, after which we will schedule a phone interview. If you are approved, we will discuss planned breedings and timelines, at which time you may choose your preferred pairing and gender. We ask that our puppy parents remain flexible on color preference, as a puppy’s color is unrelated to its temperament or quality.

We will keep you updated regularly throughout the planning, breeding, and pregnancy of your waitlisted litter. Around 28 days after a successful breeding has taken place, mama dog receives an ultrasound, and if we have a confirmed pregnancy we will begin accepting deposits (typically 2 males and 2 females per litter).

The deposit to reserve a Golden Oak Lab puppy is $500 and nonrefundable. However, it can be transferred to a later litter. The only exception to this is in the instance that there are not enough of your preferred gender produced, in which case you will receive a full refund if you do not wish to transfer your deposit to another litter.

We require that at least 50% of the puppy price is paid by the time your puppy reaches 6 weeks of age. The remainder is due at time of pick up. The puppy must be paid for in full before transfer of ownership. We do not accept payment plans.
